That&#8217;s YOU! What&#8217;s up you all? How was\u00a0your week? How are your goals going? What\u00a0did you accomplish? I&#8217;m for real &#8211; I really\u00a0mean it when I ask you this, like, leave a\u00a0comment, make a video, tell us what&#8217;s going on &#8211; really &#8211; what did you get done this week\u00a0towards your Artivism?<\/p>\n<p>We did it! We booked\u00a0a new show! So we don&#8217;t have all the\u00a0details, we don&#8217;t have the date yet, but a\u00a0good friend from <a href=\"http:\/\/www.pasadena.edu\/\" target=\"_blank\">Pasadena City College<\/a>\u00a0checked in on availability and it&#8217;s\u00a0gonna happen. It&#8217;s gonna happen! So\u00a0Pasadena City College &#8211; we did it! Go &#8216;head, Lilah. We also are talking to someone in Ottawa,\u00a0Canada at Carleton University about\u00a0bringing the show, and Cambridge &#8211;\u00a0bringing it back to Cambridge for a\u00a0special event. I&#8217;m not gonna tell you quite\u00a0yet, but I promise I will as soon as\u00a0details get a little bit closer. So YEAH!\u00a0Bookings! Good stuff, good week, we got a lot done this week for One Drop, and that was\u00a0fantastic.<\/p>\n<p>Who saw the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.pbs.org\/independentlens\/films\/the-black-panthers-vanguard-of-the-revolution\/\" target=\"_blank\">Black Panthers\u00a0documentary<\/a> on PBS this week? Great\u00a0documentary &#8211; I thought it was a great\u00a0documentary &#8211; now the director is Stanley\u00a0Nelson, and a woman named Elaine Brown came out with a really <a href=\"http:\/\/www.thedailybeast.com\/articles\/2015\/07\/03\/ex-black-panther-leader-elaine-brown-slams-stanley-nelson-s-condemnable-documentary.html\" target=\"_blank\">strong critique<\/a> of\u00a0the film and I&#8217;m&#8230;ohhhh&#8230;how are you feeling about\u00a0it? &#8216;Cause I&#8217;m torn because I feel\u00a0like the documentary is really important.\u00a0I feel like it tells us a lot of history\u00a0that we didn&#8217;t know. It certainly helps\u00a0us see the role of the government in\u00a0suppressing radical movements and\u00a0suppressing something that really was\u00a0very positive and really, like, all they\u00a0were doing for the most part &#8211; not\u00a0everybody &#8211; but just like there are good\u00a0and bad people in all groups, but for the\u00a0most part around especially carrying the\u00a0guns they were like, &#8220;Look, this is our\u00a0legal right and we&#8217;re protecting\u00a0ourselves.&#8221; NRA people should be\u00a0happy about that. I don&#8217;t know &#8211; watch for\u00a0yourself. I say it&#8217;s all important. I say\u00a0context is important\u00a0and one person&#8217;s truth is somebody\u00a0else&#8217;s different perception of the truth,\u00a0but it is important. It&#8217;s all good we&#8217;re\u00a0talking about it &#8211; that&#8217;s beautiful.<\/p>\n<p>OK a\u00a0couple friends my friend Leilani, who\u00a0has a theater troupe called <a href=\"http:\/\/www.teada.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">TeAda\u00a0Productions<\/a> &#8211; I&#8217;m going to put information\u00a0about it there. My friend Leilani and Carol\u00a0Banker we went to go see <a href=\"http:\/\/www.eastwestplayers.org\/on-the-stage\/criers-for-hire\/\" target=\"_blank\">Criers for\u00a0Hire<\/a> at East West Players here in LA.\u00a0So they do the show in <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Tagalog_language\" target=\"_blank\">Tagalog<\/a>, which is\u00a0the main language of the Philippines. The\u00a0show is in Tagalog and then they either\u00a0translate within their dialogue or they\u00a0also and they add subtitles, or super\u00a0titles, to the wall with projections and\u00a0BIG UPS to East West players for\u00a0doing this show because we need to hear these\u00a0stories &#8211; especially those of us who are\u00a0not Filipino &#8211; although I also loved\u00a0feeling in the audience the Filipino\u00a0folks who understood the Tagalog before they\u00a0translated into English. And it&#8217;s\u00a0funny &#8211; the show is hilarious, so if you&#8217;re in LA,\u00a0go check out the show, support <a href=\"http:\/\/www.eastwestplayers.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">East West Player<\/a>s; they do really important work.<\/p>\n<p>OK so I told\u00a0you that I was hired to be an Assistant\u00a0Director at the Boston Court Theatre and\u00a0I have had to turn that job down. I\u00a0know that I told you last week I&#8217;m not\u00a0teaching ESL anymore and now I&#8217;m telling\u00a0you that I&#8217;m not doing the Assistant\u00a0Director job and it is all because\u00a0there&#8217;s this new potential job that I\u00a0should be hearing about and having\u00a0confirmation on any day now and as soon\u00a0as I do I will let you know. But it is\u00a0certainly in line with the goals that I\u00a0have in life and so I&#8217;ll just leave it\u00a0at that. But I will say this interestingly\u00a0that within the negotiations of the\u00a0contract, at some point a person within\u00a0these negotiations told me that I was\u00a0being paranoid for requesting clarity\u00a0and this is so common\u00a0for Women and for People of Color to be\u00a0told that we&#8217;re being paranoid when we&#8217;re\u00a0displaying behavior that by another\u00a0person would be considered good business\u00a0sense, would be considered protecting\u00a0your interests, but when we do it we&#8217;re\u00a0called paranoid so that&#8217;s not cool and we&#8217;re not gonna put up with it, so yeah I\u00a0will still keep demanding clarity for\u00a0my job.<\/p>\n<p>Oh! I love this. My <a href=\"http:\/\/crls.cpsd.us\/\" target=\"_blank\">high school in Cambridge<\/a> is\u00a0doing an event for Black History Month\u00a0where they&#8217;re having alumni make\u00a0videos\u00a0talking about how they are innovative in\u00a0their work, so I was very honored I just\u00a0made my video for them and once they\u00a0show it, I&#8217;ll put it on this channel. But\u00a0I just love that &#8211; what a\u00a0beautiful idea to have folks come on and\u00a0hopefully inspire the young people &#8211; and as I\u00a0told them on the video actually young\u00a0people inspire me &#8211; they&#8217;re the reason that I keep doing what I do.<\/p>\n<p>OK that&#8217;s kind of it.
